AWCF participates in ICA RWC events in Hanoi PDF Print E-mail

AWCF and its member-organization in Vietnam, Center of Agricultural Extension Volunteers (CAEV), and the Philippines, the National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO), participated in two International Cooperative Alliance Regional Women’s Committee (ICA RWC) activities held in Hanoi, Vietnam in conjunction with the ICA Regional Assembly and ICA Regional Cooperative Forum held December 1-6, 2008.

The first event they participated in was the 6th Meeting of ICA Regional Women’s Committee held December 1, 2008 wherein AWCF bear witness to the election of Ms Norma Pereyras, as the first Vice Chairperson of ICA RWC− Ms Pereyras also holds the position of AWCF’s Vice President for Internal Affairs and NATCCO’s Women Representative to the Board of Directors. In addition, Ms Salome Ganibe, AWCF’s Executive Director, and Ms Pereyras were also given a chance to share their gender integration and women development activities for co-operatives in the session “Presentation of Country Reports by Members” with Ms Ganibe reporting on AWCF’s achievements while Ms Pereyras talked on NATCCO’s work.

This was followed by the 5th ICA Regional Women’s Forum held the following day, December 2. With the theme “Advantage of Gender Integration in the Economy of Co-operatives in Asia and the Pacific,” at least 49 participants from 11 ASEAN countries listened to reports and discussions on the different organizational efforts being done to integrate gender concerns in addressing a co-ops’ financial economy.

Aside from Ms Ganibe, AWCF is represented in this event by Dr. Bui Quang Toan, AWCF Treasurer and at the same time, the Director of CAEV; Ms Nguyen Thi Binh, Gender Person of CAEV; Ms Do Thu Hang, CAEV Secretary; and Ms Francisca Pilayan, AWCF-FK (Fredskorpset Norway) exchange program participant assigned at CAEV.  

On the other hand, Ms Pereyras represented NATCCO and was joined by a group of six women leaders from three primary and secondary co-ops of NATCCO in the Philippines namely NOVADECI (Novaliches Development Cooperative), MSU-IIT Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and Tagum Cooperative.
