| Updates on the second round AWCF-FK exchange project |

AWCF and its project partners met in Hanoi, Vietnam last March 9-11, 2010 for the Midterm Review Meeting to appraise the progress of the second round of the “Capacity-Building for Gender and Co-operatives in Asia” Project funded under the South-South Exchange Programme of Fredskorpset (FK) Norway. ![]() AWCF Executive Director Ms Salome Ganibe, together with representatives from the Center of Agricultural Extension Volunteers (CAEV), the Credit Union League of Thailand (CULT), the Credit Union Promotion Club (CUPC), the Forum for Indonesian Cooperatives Movement (FORMASI-Indonesia), and the Socio-Economic Development Organization of Cambodia (SEDOC), led the discussions on issues and challenges encountered by the host organizations and the accomplishments of the exchange participants. FK Asia Program Officer Ms Saowanee Sangsawangsri presented new developments related to project documents and the use of results-based planning for the third round, the schedules for the next Debriefing Meeting (September 28 to October 1, 2010) and Preparatory Course (September 29 to October 21, 2010) to be held in Hat Yai, Thailand, and the concerns related to the audited interim financial reports submitted by AWCF and the project partners. It was also decided that the “Partners Planning Workshop” for the third round of the exchange project will be held on June 1-3, 2010 in Manila, Philippines. Within the last five months, the following activities were participated in and/or conducted by the AWCF-FK participants in relation to their main tasks under the exchange program: Ms Theresa Saliendra, who is posted as CAEV co-operative trainer/facilitator and was given the opportunity at the meeting to share her exchange experience, has completed tasks that revolve around the conduct of more than 30 hours of Advanced English Course to selected CAEV staff, completion of more than 20 hours of Vietnamese language classes, and monitoring visits and documentation of Phuc Thanh Cooperative’s agricultural best practices on lean-meat pig raising and tea production. Ms Evelyn Villaflor, who is assigned in CUPC as systems specialist, specifically with the Koperasi Kredit Pekerja-Pekerja Berhad (KKP), has been working on the inputting of financial records in the MYOB accounting system, preparation of cash reconciliation records based on bank statements, and participation in the Women’s Action Committee planning meetings and celebration of the KKP Women’s Day. Likewise, Ms Eva Moenisa, who is deployed as a co-operative development officer in CUPC, in this case with the Koperasi Kredit Rakyat (KKR), has been doing accounting work related to loans, computer software updating and installation of new computer units for the ICT Training Centre, and participation in the meetings of the Women Committee in preparation for KKR’s celebration on the Women International Day. Both Evelyn and Eva have attended KKP’s and KKR’s board of directors meetings, the KKR 2010 Review and Planning Meeting, and a Gender Sensitivity Training (GST) organized by the Angkatan Malaysia Berhad (ANGKASA). Ms Maribel “Mabel” Gulay, currently posted as a communication specialist in CULT, has already started the conduct of Basic and Professional English classes for the staff and managers of the CULT National Office and Central Branch Office. Meanwhile, Ms Yem Saveth, currently assigned as credit union promotion officer in CULT, has been learning about CULT’s credit union promotional activities as well as the various accounting and bookkeeping processes and procedures of the league. Both Mabel and Saveth have attended the International Credit Union day celebrations in Thailand and have been learning about primary credit union operations and programs through participation in CULT’s provincial trips and the overseas study visits conducted by AWCF. On one hand, Mr. Pinit Thong-on, whose placement is in NATCCO as a finance officer, has been learning all aspects of the central fund system and operations including financial services management and had attended a tutorial on photoshop. On the other hand, Mr. Vu Dang Quy, now doing his exchange as a communication assistant in NATCCO, has been assisting in the preparation of training materials and has received training in photoshop and website development. Similarly, Mr. Sok Kimsay, presently assigned as human resource development staff in AWCF, has been helping out in the production of training and promotional materials and has also received training in photoshop and website development. Pinit, Quy, and Kimsay have been doing most of their exchange posting together and have already completed English and Filipino language lessons, attended gender training, and have visited several primary co-operatives to learn about its operations and programs.According to Ms Angelita Valdez, AWCF Program Coordinator, the eight AWCF-FK participants are accomplishing most of the tasks expected from them and are sure to have more activities within the last five months of their exchange posting with the partner-host organizations. |
